Goals, words and resolutions

2018 is my year to GROW|HarassedMom

It has taken me a while to formulate a plan of sorts for the year ahead. I planned January pretty well but it is always easy to plan January. I was struggling with the other 11 months though and also just couldn’t figure out my word of the year.

A lot of the people I follow on Instagram were asking what everyone’s resolutions or goals were and eventually just for something to say I said “to grow”. This got me thinking though and the more I wrote it the more it started making sense.

I spent a lot of time in December working on my blog, engaging, commenting, actively trying to grow my following so it made sense to carry this on into the new year. I also want Speak Social to grow and I want to work on my personally growth as a writer, mother and business owner.

I obviously know what the word grow means but I looked it up in the dictionary and the word GROWTH means “development, maturation, growing, germination, shooting up, blooming, flourishing, thriving”

When I read that I knew that would be my word for 2018. I want all of those things for myself, for my kids, for my husband, for my blog and my business.

I want us to bloom, flourish and thrive!

2018 is my year to GROW|HarassedMom

I haven’t spent much time actively growing HarassedMom, I have just kept on doing what I have always done and it has worked but I think it is time to shoot up and bloom. It is not really about making HarassedMom bigger than what it is but just being more intentional about what I right. The reality is that it is a business, I make money from it and the last few months I have made good money from it. It is time to start taking that seriously without loosing the essence of what this blog is. I have, for the first time in my 10 years of blogging written down a set of goals for how I want to grow HarassedMom!

Speak Social grew a lot last year but I also made a lot of mistakes which had some negative results so while I want to grow my client base, I am going to be more selective about the clients I decide to work with. I want a group of clients who are passionate about their business but who also bring positivity to my business.

The last few years have been about my kids, having them, raising them and watching them grow. I have ignore MY own growth and done very little to grow my knowledge base and ultimately feed my soul on an intellectual level. I want to change that this year. I have a burning desire to finish my degree but finances are just not there right but there are a lot of affordable online and short courses I want to do, not necessarily for the accreditation but for my own personal growth.

As a family we have started this year off really positively and I am determined to keep that up as the year continues. We have had many years of worry and stress and it has stolen moments from us. I want this year to be the year we all focus on our successes.

What is your word for the year? Do you have any goals you want to share?

    I love your word, Laura!

Mine is FUN and you can read more about it here. Interestingly, it’s one of the most popular posts of every year!

I have about 18 goals that I feel are doable but a good stretch. This year I asked myself, “what sounds fun?” as I planned my goals so that was a nice merge of the two!

I have two words or more of a motto: INVEST in that which is LIFE-GIVING. Invest kept popping up and I realised that I need to be aware of what I choose to invest in and truly do that…

I have 2 words for 2018: Enthusiasm and Self-accountability. As a mother, I used to give all to my kids and they grow so fast. Now, I balance, I try to do things that fulfill me and share that with them.

I achieved my goals for 2016 and 2017 and now I have this feeling that I don’t have any goal for 2018. Reading your posts makes me ponder on my goals so… I’ll let the thought linger. Thanks for writing about your goals!

There are always goals to achieve – even if it is to take the year off and just enjoy it

Loved this post Laura! I prefer having a word/phrase for the year as opposed to resolutions. My phrase for 2018 is β€œlive a little”, I really don’t want to hold back from doing fun things and creating memories with the fam

Wow, blogging for ten years – absolutely amazing! “Shoot up and bloom”, I think growth is a word that will enrich your year in many ways.

We chose self-care as our word for the school year.

My word for the year is “choice.” It is my choice to succeed in life and not let my past define me. I hope to share this word and message with many others throughout the year!

This is so inspiring! I haven’t thought of my word yet. I want something to improve but I want it to be more concrete.

Wishing you all the best for this year!
