We try really hard to not bring plastic bottles into our home but it does happen. It happens a lot less but there are a few things we do end up buying in plastic bottles. We do recycle them but I also try to find alternative uses for the bottles, to extend their life a little. When you get creative there really is so much you can do with a simple plastic container.
There are a few things you can do with the bottles without any creativity.
- If you are heading out on a long road trip, freeze water in smaller soda bottles and use them in your cooler box. The bonus is once they melt you can use them to rinse sticky hands.
- Keep a 10l plastic water bottle in your car – in case you run out of petrol. Trust me on this, it WILL come in handy.
The next set of ideas do require a little creativity but most of them are still pretty easy.
Plastic Bottle Holders: I LOVE this idea. It is such a great idea if you have a range of different sized bottles you need to reuse. You can use them for makeup, stationery, jewellery, toiletries etc. It is a great idea for a bathroom used by little kids.
Milk Jug Organiser: Homeschoolers this one is for you. I really like this idea and if we had a more wall space I would definitely do this. It is such a creative way to store stationery when you have many kids. You could also use it for smaller toys or Lego pieces.
Pencil Zipper Holders: While I like this idea I am not sure of the practicalities around making it. You would need a proper glue gun or glue to make sure that the zip sticks properly. That said though it is a great way to stationery separate and neat.
Plastic bottle planter. I am in the process of collecting different shaped bottles to create fun planters for a fun section in the garden. This is a great activity you can get the kids to do and then they can plant something in each little pot.
Stationery holders. The main reason I added these was because they are just so fun. The other reason why I like this one is because it uses shampoo bottles, not just normal soda bottles. You could also use cleaning bottles, just make sure you rinse them out properly.
Ice cream container caddy. While this isn’t actually an increase tub, it is a similar shape, making it perfect to be repurposed into a makeup caddy in your bathroom. It is also a nice one to use for hair accessories.
Plastic bottle herb garden. I am so in love with this, I almost wish we drank milk in plastic bottles so I could do this.
Plastic container vehicles. This is super cute and so easy to do, you might have to collect a few lids but it really is a super cute idea.
Watering can. I love this if you have kids who enjoy playing outside. You can add it to their water toys and they can water the garden with it.
Creative gift wrapping. We end up with more of these containers than I would like. I often use them for kids snacks but I like this idea. You can use them as gift wrapping.
Charging station. This is a plastic shampoo bottle turned into a neat charging station. It helps to keep chargers, cables and phones in once place.
How have you used plastic containers creatively?
