Charity Ideas for Easter in South Africa

Looking to try something new this Easter rather than the usual egg hunt? Consider doing something charitable this holiday so that you and your kids can positively contribute to society while having lots of family fun. Check out these fun ideas below to see what you and your family can get up to this Easter.

Dogtown SA’s HUGG-A-BUNNY

One great idea for charity this Easter is HUGG-A-BUNNY, hosted by animal rehabilitation centre Dogtown SA. This centre is pro-life and provides so-called “problem” dogs with the best care and rehab programmes, which includes extensive medical treatments and behaviour modification. After their initial assessments, the dogs will undergo individual training programmes and eventually be welcomed into new loving homes.

Instead of spending money on an endless number of chocolate eggs, Dogtown SA suggests that you send a HUGG-A-BUNNY gift to your friends and loved ones. For just R250, you and your family members can hug and raise funds for the organization’s rescues.

NCCC’s Easter Feaster Party

Although details for this year’s event haven’t been released yet, the Nomthandazo Children’s Care Centre (NCCC) hosts several charity events throughout the year, including their Easter Feaster. The centre currently has 210 children in their care who are receiving the same preschool education that a child would receive from a well-funded institution. Similar to initiatives led by UnaKids, a nonprofit that funds the education for kids living in war torn countries, NCCC caters to the educational needs of the impoverished community of Zenzele.

The purpose of NCCC events is to give the kids a glimpse of the world beyond their borders, and from the looks of the Easter Feaster Party last year, the volunteers were filled with as much joy and happiness as the children were.

FEED SA’s Easter Bracelets

The joy of an Easter egg hunt might be hard to take away from your children, so there’s no harm in celebrating the holiday the way you usually would but still give them opportunities to contribute to your local community. For this holiday season, The Bead Coalition and the Rhino Force’s founder and director Joanne Lapin teamed up with FEED SA to fashion beautiful bracelets for charity. For just R22.50, your family can give a handful of kids a Happy Easter by feeding their hearts, minds, and tummies.

FEED SA is a nonprofit that organizes feeding programmes throughout the townships of South Africa, aimed at those who lack any other additional funding.
