Process or Product Driven

I saw Kiara’s psychologist for feedback earlier this week – it was pretty much the standard results – you know “your child has an above average IQ but can’t spell or read”.

It is not something I really can grasp at the moment but we are working hard at the moment to sort it out. Anyone with tips on how to get her to learn her division PLEASE share them.

The psychologist explained something that I found very interesting and really is Kiara (and me to a T).

KiaraandJack

If you give Kiara a picture to colour in she will experiment with colours, she will add in a sun and some grass, she will colour the skirt in different colours and the skin colour may even be an odd shade. She will enjoy it immensely.

Cameron will colour that same picture in perfectly. He will not add anything (unless you tell him to). He will colour the skirt in pink and the shirt white. He will make the person skin colour. It will be a perfect picture.

Kiara is all about the process but Cameron is all about the product.

This accounts for some of her issues as well. She doesn’t want to complete the worksheet because she finds it hard so she will write down random numbers just to get it done so she can do something she wants to do.

This is obviously a problem and doesn’t have as much to do with her brain per se as it does her personality – it is the type of child she is.

I am very much like this. David is very much like Cameron – they are all about the product.

Where do you fit in? Are you product driven or process driven?

  1. LOL – I’m totally about the product! My creative side is completely and utterly devoid of function…

Hubby is much like me (with a bit more on the creative thinking – strategising -side)

Jaden however is like you and Kiara…

  2. even when trying to add 10% tip to the bill, I have to concentrate and it makes me feel inadequate. Its like trying to drive a left hand car, it feels so uncomfortable.
I hope you find ways for her to get through the worksheets in a comfortable way.

  3. I think I manage to do both – mu job is all about the process to completenthwroduct, if that makes sense in any way. I am still shocked that my child that is ” behnd” age the one with the really exceptional IQ. As the neurologist and the Ot keeps remonding me – if an IQ is so high, they often have other problems . Natures way of keeping a balance. But it sucks

  4. Interesting. I am not sure where I, or my two, fit in. We all seem to display both behaviours at different times.
