January Round Up
Our January’s never start off calm or slow or quite. I am not sure if it is because it’s David’s birthday on the 11th January and two of our friends have their kids birthdays in January, so we basically celebrate Christmas and then go straight into another month of celebrations. It also feels like a lot more than usual happened in January.
The highlights
- David celebrated his 41st birthday.
- We have officially started unschooling with Emma and a more relaxed approach with Jack.
- David had a work trip to Cape Town, which was much needed as there was a lot happening with the big kids.
- Emma’s cast came off. (It was a long 3 months).
- I started regular yoga from home again. Every time I restart I am never sure why I stopped.
- My little veggie garden is coming alive with magic. David got me 3 stunning veggie boxes for Christmas. Two of the three are already green with lettuce, basil and tomatoes. The puppy has claimed the third one as hers, so we are still in a big dispute but the rest of the garden is also alive and thriving.
- I won a 4 day retreat in Cape Town in April. It is an enneagram retreat and I am beyond excited to attend it.

What I Read
I have started reading again. Similar to yoga, I am never really sure why I stop these things.
I managed to read 4 books during January – 2 were great, one was ok and was was meh.
The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year – LOVED IT. Really I related so much to her need to just not be responsible for anything or anyone.
The Woman Who Stole My Life – it was pure coincidence that these two books had similar names. This one was written by Marian Keyes and I absolutely devoured it. It was such a great read.
The Wonder Spot – this one was meh. I actually bought it a while ago and struggled to get into it so stopped but I was determined to finish it now. It got slightly better but just didn’t go anywhere.
What I Watched
We tend to watch the same shows over and over again which gets boring so I am trying to watch as many new shows as I can.
Survival of the Thickest – LOVED this so much. I hope it gets renewed for a 2nd season. Its on Netflix and is such a great feel good show.
The Bear – I had to rewatch this after all the Emmy hype. It was even better the second time around.
Single Parents – This was a great back ground noise show. Its very vanilla but you do kinda get attached to the characters.
Glamorous – I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Its definitely a fun watch on a rainy weekend.
Fisk – if you are 40+ then you HAVE to watch this. The main character is the best. I enjoy Australian humour a lot more than the US and this show did not disappoint.
Who I Saw
I saw the regulars! I don’t really venture too far outside my comfort zone at the moment.
Eve and I have been having some wonderful chats once a week while the boys socialise.
I had a lovely catch up with Lucien.
And that was that.

Looking back at January, it was a busy start to the year but very productive and positive.
How has your year started?
