Fiber: The Unsung Hero of Women's Health
Are you getting enough fibre in your diet? Do you even know that fibre is important? I kinda did but until very recently I didn’t know just how important it was.
I recently tried Gloots Regular Girl, I will admit to being a little skeptical at first but it was an effective prebiotic fibre supplement that delivers on its core promises. While the texture takes some getting used to when mixed with liquid (it has a slightly unusual consistency), it tastes nice.
I took it regularly throughout December, which I think was the perfect time to try it out and I did notice a clear improvement in my digestive regularity without any harsh effects that some fibre supplements can cause (which I was a little worried about). I ran out while we were still away so didn’t order more immediately and I could definitely feel the difference, so much so that I have stocked up again!
The product combines psyllium husk and Fibersol with digestive enzymes, creating a comprehensive approach to gut health. The powder format makes it convenient to incorporate into a daily routine, though you’ll want to make sure you mix it well.
Understanding fibre’s importance for women’s health adds context to why this supplement can be beneficial. Women need about 25 grams of fibre daily, though many don’t reach this target.

Digestive Health Benefits:
- Fibre adds bulk to stool and absorbs water, which helps prevent both constipation and diarrhea
- Soluble fiber acts as a prebiotic, feeding beneficial gut bacteria which produce short-chain fatty acids that nourish colon cells
- Regular fiber intake helps maintain the gut barrier, reducing inflammation and the risk of diverticulitis
- It can help prevent hemorrhoids by making stools softer and easier to pass
Metabolic Benefits:
- Soluble fiber slows down digestion and sugar absorption, helping to prevent blood sugar spikes after meals
- By slowing digestion, fiber increases feelings of fullness, which aids in weight management
- Studies show that every 10g increase in daily fiber intake is associated with a 10% reduction in calorie intake
- Regular fiber consumption is linked to lower cholesterol levels, particularly LDL (bad) cholesterol
Women’s Health Specific Benefits:
- Fibre helps regulate estrogen levels by binding to excess estrogen in the digestive tract and removing it from the body
- This hormone regulation can help reduce PMS symptoms and support overall hormonal balance
- Higher fibre intake is associated with reduced risk of breast cancer – studies suggest a 7% lower risk for every 10g of daily fibre consumed
- During pregnancy, fibre helps prevent constipation which is common due to hormonal changes
- Post-menopause,fibre’s effects on cholesterol become even more important as natural estrogen protection decreases
Disease Prevention:
- Regularfibre intake is associated with a 15-30% lower risk of colorectal cancer
- High-fibre diets are linked to reduced risk of heart disease – each 7g increase in daily fibre intake is associated with a 9% lower risk
- Fibre helps prevent type 2 diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity
- Some studies suggest fibre may reduce inflammation throughout the body, which is linked to many chronic diseases
The convenience of this product makes it easier to reach daily fibre goals, though it’s best used as part of a balanced diet rich in natural fibre sources like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
