Oily skin, the joys of turning 40

I turned 40 last year and as cliched as it sounds, it was my most liberating birthday.

One of the things I am not enjoying though is the hormonal changes that have arrived with my 40th year. I started struggling with oily skin early last year. I tried everything I could think of to stabilize it but nothing helped. It got so bad at one point that my glasses would slip down my nose.

I tried a completely new brand of skin care and ended up nearly burning my face off. After that I stopped using anything on my skin because I was honestly too scared of something similar happening again. The oiliness obviously never went away which I found so frustrating.

We have used Cetaphil for Cameron for ages, they have one of the nicest sunscreens out there and he uses a lot of sunscreen now that they train outside. I received an email about their range for oily skins and I thought why not give it a try. I knew the brand well and Cameron had never had any reaction to any of their products.

I have been trying their face wash and moisturizer for almost 2 months now. It took about 2 weeks for me to feel a difference but it definitely got the oiliness under control. For the first time in months I don’t feel like my face is a chip fryer.

When you apply the moisturizer it does feel a little heavy but it isn’t at all. It gets absorbed almost immediately and you don’t even feel it there. There were some days when I forgot to put moisturizer on or was too lazy at the end of the day and skipping that effected the oiliness of my skin more than not washing it.

It is also lasting really well. I should get at least 2 months out of it and you know I am all about value for money.

If you are struggling with oily skin, skip wasting money on other products like I did and get the Cetaphil range. It is available at Dis-chem and Clicks. The DermaControl Oil Control Face Wash is R189 and the DermaControl Oil Control Moisturiser is R238.

Do you struggle with oily skin?

I’ve struggle with oily skin, but I think it’s actually a blessing in disguise! Oily skin=less dryness=less wrinkles as we age! Major win!
