Plant A Flower Today, Even If You Have A Small Garden

A man doesn’t plant a tree for himself. He plants it for posterity.

Today is Plant A Flower Day and it is so perfectly timed because we are currently learning about life cycles. We have planted some beans and are observing them as they grow each day.

A few weeks ago we started a veggie garden and Cameron and Emma have been nurturing a green pepper plant for a few weeks now. It has been such a great activity for them to do because they planted it in a coke bottle so they can see the roots growing as well as how the plant develops.

This is such a fun activity to do with your kids because all you need is a coke bottle, seeds from a pepper or if you have more space you can use gem squash seeds as well.

We don’t have a big garden and most of it is grass so that the kids have somewhere to play and also because tending to a flower garden is time consuming and not something that is a priority for us. We do have some pot plants though and are busy nurturing our little pot plant garden because it is less admin. We also now have some pot plants inside that we are managing to keep alive.

Do you have office plants?

I have never really had plants in my home office but I received one as a birthday gift last year and I now love having it on my desk. It adds a little life to my desk and is pretty easy to take care of.

If you don’t have anything green in your home office, or home in general, check out this cool trio of plants in such a pretty basket.

If you are looking for a little more colour, this gorgeous anthurium will add some colour. I used to have one of these in my office but it left us for greener pastures. When they are in bloom they are absolutely gorgeous.

Grow your pot plant garden.

I mentioned earlier we are busy growing our pot plant garden. We are doing it with the kids as part of their home schooling because it teaches them so many things and it is fun watching something you planted grow and bloom. There are a lot of plants that do really well in pots and you don’t have to spend a lot on pots. You can buy plain ones and get the kids to decorate them as and art project.

Roses are such beautiful plants. Our neighbour has some stunning rose bushes growing. We don’t really have the space for bushes but this yellow rose in a pot is a stunning alternative for a smaller garden or even a veranda if you live in a flat.

I love the colour of this rose and look how pretty it is wrapped up, perfect if you are looking for a house warming gift for someone. It would also look gorgeous in a pretty pot.

If you are plant fan and want to celebrate Plant A Flower Day, buy this cool little Bonsai kit. It will be a fun project to do with your kids as an alternative to a flower.

Reasons you need flowers in your life!

If you aren’t sure why you need to add flowers to your life, let me give you a few reasons.

  1. Plants help to clean the air. They can remove toxins from the air and give off large amounts of oxygen, helping to clean the air in your home or office.
  2. They brighten your mood. A colourful bunch of flowers not only brightens the room but also lifts your mood.
  3. They could actually have healing properties. Ever wonder why we take flowers to sick people? They have a positive psychological affect on patients but researchers say that they can also help to lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety.

So take this opportunity on Plant A Flower Day to add some colour and life to your home and garden.

What is your favourite plant?

I totally agree with this. I also have a small garden and it brings me so much joy. It also allows me to enjoy fresh flowers without spending any penny.

Now, I am planning to have more indoor plants soon.

wish I had green fingers to be able to start vegetable garden or flowers – couldn’t even manage to grow the “little shopper” plants that checkers ran not so long ago. Think even a cactus would properly not survive with me.

Our succulent garden has been the first thing that has really taken off. Our veggie garden is going but it’s touch and go :-p

I love this! We don’t have any plants in our house right now, except for a cactus. Time to bring some green indoors! I also would love to have a planted flower in a pot.

I love the benefits of plants, but I kill them all too often sadly. But I keep trying and Googling to figure out how to care for them, haha!! Thanks for the article!
