I have worked from home for years, juggling kids and work was not something I had to adjust to when we started lockdown last year. What I did have to adjust to, however, was online meetings. Like everyone I did like the idea of online meetings but nearly 18 months in and it is a bit of a struggle.
I also find that getting dressed up for online meetings, like you would if you went for an in-person meeting, is a lot harder, especially now in winter. (There may have been a few times where I threw a scarf over my pyjamas and hopped on a meeting – generally just with my team).
Which brings me to the point of this post – finding ways to accessorise for your ZOOM meetings so it doesn’t look like you literally just rolled off your bed into your office chair (even if you did).
Applying makeup is one thing and I suppose if you have a really great camera, and a bold red lipstick people will notice but adding some really funky accessories to your look will add some fun to your meeting and at the very least will make you feel good.
Not sure what to accessorise with? These are a few of the things I would add.
Add some hats. Seriously add a couple of women’s hats to your accessory collection. I have been on a few meetings where people have had hats on. It is winter now so you can easily add a beanie or if you really want to bring some sophistication to the meeting, add a beret. You can shop hats for women on Superbalist – check out the floppy grey fedora, pretty sure that would also have some flair to your next team meeting.
Don’t forget the watch. If you are like me, you use your hands a lot, even in online meetings. I struggle to sit still so I am adjusting my hair or using wild gestures to explain my reports. This means my arms are in the shot a lot. Why not take advantage and accessorise with one of these gorgeous women watches – the bigger and brighter the better? Find the perfect watch for women in this selection from Superbalist.
Some big, bold earrings. Tie your hair back and pop on a pair of these stunning rainbow style earrings. They are definitely going to glam up your boring budget meeting.
A headband can also work. If hats are pushing the limits for you, add a headband or a pretty Alice band. Both will add some flair and excitement to your look but keep it understated and professional.
Scarves are my favourite. A scarf can hide pretty much anything and if you have a poncho, you really never have to change out of your pyjamas. Scarves are the best accessories ever. You can throw them on in an instant and they take your outfit from meh to glam in seconds.
Play with patterns. Accessorizing isn’t just about watches and hats, you can also add some patterned pieces of clothing like this stunning jersey. You will definitely get noticed – just remember to put your video on!
Online meetings seem to here to stay, at least for the next few months so why not have a little bit of fun with them. Even if no one notices, it will make you feel good to get dressed up and who knows, maybe you will encourage your colleagues to also make a little effort to their look – even if it is only from the waist up.
