Benefits of a Probiotic

Benefits of a Probiotic | Sustainable Living with HarassedMom

Did you know that 70% of all illnesses start in the gut?

When last (if ever) did you consider your gut health? It is not something I really worried about or even thought was an issue until about 2 years ago when I started seeing more and more about the importance of a healthy gut.

It is a pretty complex topic – you can read more about why the gut microbiome is important here and this is a fascinating article on the brain-mind connection. There is a lot of research being done on this topic so there is a lot of invaluable information out there if you want to dive a little deeper into this topic.

One of the ways we can help our gut to heal and function better and ultimately improve our overall health is by taking a probiotic. Traditionally a probiotic was something you took only when you were on antibiotics but this is no longer the case – we all should be taking regular probiotics.

What is a probiotic?

Probiotics are live microorganisms, We can consume through either fermented foods, like kimchi, kombucha etc or by taking supplements

Taking regular probiotics can promote a healthy balance of gut bacteria which has been linked to a wide range of health benefits – including  weight loss, digestive health, immune function and more.

Health Benefits of Probiotics

They Balance The Good Bacteria in Your Digestive System

Probiotics are made up of  live microorganisms that contain good bacteria and these bacteria can provide health benefits when you consume them. They are able to restore the natural balance of the bacteria in your gut.

Your gut goes out of balance when you have more bad bacteria than good – this is often a result of illness, medication or a poor diet and can cause allergies, obesity, mental health problems and digestive issues.

You can take a probiotic like Elixirmune or you can add fermented foods to your daily diet.

Probiotics Prevent and Treat Diarrhea

Many of us have probably taken a probiotic while on antibiotics for this exact reason. Probiotics can help to reduce diarrhea when you are taking antibiotics or even if you or your children get a tummy bug.

A large review of 35 studies found certain strains of probiotics can reduce the duration of infectious diarrhea by an average of 25 hours (Source).

They Improve Some Mental Health Conditions

Studies have been done, and are still being done that show a connection between gut health and mental health.

Studies in both animals and humans have shown that taking probiotic supplements can actually improve some mental health disorders including stress and anxiety.

Certain Probiotics Can Keep your Heart Healthy

Bile is a naturally occurring fluid in your body that is made up of cholesterol and helps digestion. Probiotics can break down bile and prevent it from being reabsorbed in the gut – if it does reenter the gut it can enter the blood as cholesterol.By taking probiotics regularly you can actually improve your heart health and reduce cholesterol.

Studies have also found that probiotics can lower blood pressure!

Probiotics Can Help  Certain Digestive Disorders

Numerous studies have been done that show that probiotics have benefits for certain bowel disorders like IBS, ulcerative colitis and enterocolitis. While they may not be able to resolve these disorders they decrease the symptoms.

Probiotics Boost Your Immune System

Probiotics boost your immune system by preventing the growth of harmful gut bacteria and promoting the growth of natural antibodies.

Probiotics Can Help with Weight Loss

Some probiotics prevent the absorption of dietary fat and in doing so can help with weight loss. A study was done where dieting women who took Lactobacillus rhamnosus for 3 months lost 50% more weight than women who didn’t take a probiotic (Source).

Elixirmune Probiotic

After I had COVID in June my body was completely out of whack. Even when I had fully recovered I just didn’t feel “right”. I did a little body reset and upped my fresh fruit and veggies and started making kombucha again and had some good quality natural yoghurt every day. It definitely did help but it wasn’t enough.

I started looking for a probiotic to help the process when Elixirmune got in touch with me and offered a 9 week supply of their probiotic.

Elixirmune Gut Guard is a potent natural alternative to traditional pharmeceutical medication that powers your body’s immune system to fight bacterial, fungal and viral infections the way nature has done for millions of years. Elixmune Gut Guard creates a rain forest of good bacteria for your gut that fights the bad bacteria that cause illness and disease.

Elixirmune Gut Guard can help with

  • Immune diseases and disorders
  • Digestive tract and gut-related conditions
  • Metabolic disorders and diabetes-related ailments and symptoms
  • Respiratory and poor circulation conditions
  • Fungal, bacterial and viral infections
  • Gout and arthritic symptoms and inflammation

Not only can it be taken for the above but it can also be used to help treat acne, topical wounds, burns and ulcers, eczema, sun damage and fungal infections and you can use it to nebulize with.

I have been taking Elixirmune for over a month now and can definitely feel the difference in my body! I don’t feel as sluggish as I was, my skin is looking much better and overall I just feel a whole lot better.

It is not a pleasant probiotic to take – it is black and has a very strong molasses (tar) type taste but it is worth it.

When I started with it I took it daily for a week to give my body a bit of a boost and now I take it 2-3 times a week. You can also give it to your kids (you might have a hard time getting them to take it but it is worth it.)

I do think we all need to be showing our gut a lot more love than we do and taking a natural product like this is an easy way to help maintain the balance in your gut!

You can read more about Elixirmune and how it can help your family on their website. You can also purchase it directly from their website.
