Why You Need to Take Collagen

About 9 years ago when I was having really bad pain in my hips I started taking collagen tablets. They made such a huge difference but when I realised that I needed a hip replacement I stopped taking them. But recently collagen has become a hot topic, so I started looking into it again.

As I get older, my body is taking more and more strain, and I am starting to feel it in my bones. I have also been struggling with hair loss recently and just general old age stuff!! Ok I know I am not that old but some days it does feel like it with my aching bones.

Keeping all of that in mind and reading up a little bit more on collagen I decided a while ago to add it to my daily routine.

After trying a few (fine I only tried two) I settled on the Harvest Tables Pure Collagen Granules. There were a few reasons I settled on this one.

  • The price
  • The taste – it doesn’t have a noticeable taste
  • It comes in a glass jar
  • They are a local company (coincidentally from my home town of Pinetown)

Why Collagen?

There are so many benefits to taking collagen regularly. I have noticed a few of these just using it for 2 months now.

Improved skin health. This has probably been the biggest and most notable difference so far. My skin is a lot smoother and doesn’t look so tired all the time.

“In one study, women who took a supplement containing 2.5–5 grams of collagen for 8 weeks experienced less skin dryness and a significant increase in skin elasticity compared with those who did not take the supplement.” Source

I have definitely noticed that my skin elasticity is improving and my skin is not so dry anymore.

Eases Joint Pain. This was a big one for me. I was really starting to struggling with aching joints. I sit a lot for work and often would get up and really in huge amounts of pain. While the pain has not gone completely I have noticed it definitely has eased a lot.

Improves hair and nails. I haven’t really ever struggled with brittle nails but I have noticed that my nails are now a lot stronger and seem to be growing a lot faster. My hair loss has definitely slowed down a lot. I used to pull out handfuls every time I washed it and when I pulled out a hair tie so much hair would come with it but it is now considerably less.

Studies have also shown that it could prevent bone loss, boost muscle mass and improve heart health. I have a friend who is also adamant that it helped her to lose weight but unfortunately I have not been so lucky with that.

There are definitely more reason to take it than not to take it! It is so easy to add to your daily routine. I add it into my morning coffee but you can add it to your smoothies or water or juice or whatever really.

I am working on a comprehensive waste-free guide to help you make the switch. If you want to receive it, please subscribe to my weekly newsletter and be the first to have access.
