I have been wanting to make paella for months now but have been searching for the most cost effective seafood mix (and one without crab sticks) but recently Pick n Pay had one on special so I just bought it and tried it out.

I didn’t love the mix. I really don’t enjoy crab sticks, they are always mushy and tasteless (perhaps I am cooking them wrong?). I think when I make it again I am going to buy the seafood separately rather than use a mix. I also would like to add mussels the next time around. The younger three don’t eat seafood so this isn’t really a cheap meal but it is yummy

Have you made seafood paella before? What mix did you use?

Or did you use separate seafood?

  1. I haven’t had paella often, but the times I did have it everything basically tasted the same. And those were also made from the frozen packets. Now that you mentioned it I would actually love to try it with the different fresh ingredients added seperately. I absolutely LOVE stir fry, but only when everything is freshly cut up and added a few minutes apart. I can’t stand the mixed packs (fresh or frozen) where everything is added at the same time.
