Change is inevitable!
“If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward”
Jeannette Walls
When something extremely stressful happens, it changes the course of the life you had planned.
8 years ago David lost his job. It was pretty sudden and it knocked the wind from our sails and we quite literally went from flying to crawling in a matter of 24 hours.
It was the most stressful thing we had to deal with.
We both went straight into survival mode and for many months, years even, it felt like we would always be in survival mode. We were working so hard to move forward but keeping a family of 6 fed, educated and clothed costs a lot and it felt like we were never actually going to get everything paid.
But nothing remains the same.
Things did start getting easier, without us realising it.
If you had told me 3 years ago that we would have two kids in tertiary education, living in another city I would never have believed you. It just did not seem possible.

But here we are 8 years later.
We are 80% debt free!
Cameron has just finished his second year at UCT (loan free).
Kiara has just finished her first year at Friends of Design (loan free).
We managed to go away twice this year.
We are slowly sorting our home out.
David is smashing his goals.
My business is growing consistently.

For the first time in 8 years I feel like I can breathe again. We aren’t just surviving anymore but we are all thriving and starting to fly again.
We did not get here on our own, however. We had so much help from our families! And we were both fortunate enough to find work families who have been incredibly supportive in helping us get our businesses thriving.
This year has been the first time I have stopped to look back on just how far we have come and I am pretty proud of us for pushing through the really hard moments and not giving up.

I’m thinking about how much my two primary school kids eat in a day when you say a family of 6! You are so right, its so easy to get wrapped up in how hard things are, but things do change and when you look back you can see how far you have come. Congrats on getting everything back on track and on your business growth!
