3 Brands Getting It Right Going Green

When you become aware of the packaging you are buying your products in, you realise plastic is EVERYWHERE! You also become aware of the unnecessary waste we produce.

Think about till slips! Do you need a mile-long slip when all you bought was bread and milk? Does your vacuum-packed meat need to be in a styrofoam tray wrapped in cling wrap?

Honestly, it gets me down, just how much rubbish we are adding to our lives for absolutely NO reason.

So I have been doing research on the brands I support. It is becoming more and more important to me to use brands that are committed to changing the way they do business when it comes to the manufacturing and packaging of products.

Mugg & Bean – I love coffee and when I do get take away coffee I try to use my own mug as often as possible but sometimes I don’t plan on getting coffee so don’t have my cup. Mugg & Bean have introduced a compostable and biodegradable takeaway Eco Cup! This means you can pop the cup in your compost when you are done! HOW awesome is that? No more throwing away takeaway cups!! They also have introduced a bamboo travel mug for those who drink coffee regularly!

Burts Bees – Burts Bees arrived in SA earlier this year, much to Kiara’s excitement. I was fortunate enough to attend the launch and got to learn more about the product. They have a zero waste to landfill policy which is fantastic. Sustainability does not only lie in the packaging but starts with how the product is made. Ths brand is also dedicated to making their packaging more sustainable.

Soda Stream – We buy a 2 liter coke zero to have every Friday for burger night. I used to grab a buddy coke during the school run. I have stopped getting buying the buddy coke but burger nights need the coke! At a recent Soda Stream event, I discovered the solution! As a brand, Soda Stream is constantly looking for ways to reduce single-use plastic AND make their products more environmentally friendly. They have just launched the coolest set of Proudly South African bottles that are BPA free and can be recycled. Soda stream offers an alternative to buying fizzy drinks in single-use plastics. You can make liters of sodas in your bottles. It tastes as good and in most cases is healthier.

There are a lot more brands who are making changes to their processes and products. These are just 3 brands that we use in an attempt to reduce our waste.

What are some of the brands that you use that are going green?

I haven’t heard of Mugg & Bean, but the other two I am very familiar with. It’s nice to know that big companies are focusing on making positive changes.
