2021 A Look Back at the Year | HarassedMom

I used to do these posts at the end of every year and then I stopped for some reason, time to change that I think.

They are great ways to stop and take stock of the year that was! Despite the pandemic, as a family we have had a great year.

My business is growing and doing really well. Cameron had a good year in Cape Town (all things considered). Kiara finished matric and we really found our grove with our homeschooling journey!

1. What did you do in 2021 that you’d never done before?

Survived a pandemic! I can’t think of anything else that was as life changing as the pandemic.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I think collectively our goal was to simply survive. But I did set the intention to continue to focus on our sustainable journey.

3. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?

With David’s parents – the curfew kinda set the tone for any external parties we might have wanted to organise.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Yes, we lost a friend to COVID. It was pretty crappy!

5. What countries did you visit?

None.

6. What would you like to have in 2022 that you lacked in 2021?

No more masks – I CAN NOT get used to them. Time with my family.

7. What date from 2021 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

I think it will be the day Kiara left for Cape Town. It was a very emotional time for me. It felt like the end of an era for me and it was incredibly hard.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

There were a few – helping to get Cameron through his year in Cape Town, my business growing, my veggie garden.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I don’t know – my bread making attempts probably.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I did have COVID but made it through unscathed.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

All my plants and a macrame set – it is not as easy as it looks but I am loving learning something new..

12. Where did most of your money go?

Varsity tuition. That is all!

13. What song will always remind you of 2021?

This is always a hard one for me – I don’t really have one.

14. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Spending more time outside.

15. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Stressing over stuff I have no control over!

16. What were your favourite TV shows?

The Derry Girls. Shrill – probably the best show ever. MasterChef Australia – I binged all 12 seasons! Younger

17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Nope.

18. What was the best book you read?

I did not read a book but I did listen to a few audio books – David Sedaris has been my greatest find of the last 2 years and his new book came out this year. .

19. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Again I really don’t listen to music outside of social gatherings.

20. What was your favourite film of this year?

There has been a lot of TV watching this year but honestly no movie really stands out for me. I also did a Christmas movie binge which was very underwhelming but I did enjoy Holidate

21. What did you do on your birthday?

We just had a small family celebration.

22. What kept you sane?

My husband, my colleagues, my friends and yoga

23. Who did you miss?

My family. Always. Especially since we didn’t make it down to them this year.

24. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2021

To trust and let go. Abundance is everywhere, if we accept it.

How was your 2021?
