Please reference: Where did you find out that Potch was once teh capital of SA? I’ve never heard of this, and would appreciate some further reading on the matter. 2) As well as that our press/media was born there? The first South African newspaper was printed in 1830 in Cape Town, the Cape Town Gazette and the Africa Advertiser Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_of_South_Africa
Johann – one of my subjects this semester is the History of Media – so its from my text book!
Maybe I should have said Potch is where media grew – I know the first paper was printed in CT but alot of movements and developments happened in Potch that influenced the media and press!
I dont have the books name here though!
yeah that is spot on I think. Potch was like the Afrikaans capital of the then Transvaal! And a lot of our initial media was either Afrikaans or English. I’d still like to find out more about it though as media is an extremely broad term which can refer to anything. Print media is definitely Western Cape though, but yeah maybe reference your text book and the authors when you can 🙂
Thanks for linking that website. I’ll definitely be spending more time on it.
Have a fabulous weekend and enjoy meeting your niece!
xx
Oh I would give up meat too, any day, but sugar – impossible!
I have learned that no matter how “easy” a specific child seems over a weekend away, all the “difficult” qualities will return once home.
“•Sometimes people do things that I will never understand!” – I’m with you on this one.
1. I learnt that people are usually more generous than we’re led to believe, and more understanding when you explain things to them.
2. I also learnt that, sometimes persistence pays off in expected ways.
3. So never give up, even when you seem to be shouting into a dark empty room. someone invariably hears and the response will surprise you.
ummmm thanks for reiterating that the lowveld is the middle of nowhere… 😉
People can and will disappoint you no matter how well you think you know them.
I can be successfully self employed.
I love our two adopted dogs more than I thought I would.
Even without smoking I can not go without my asthma meds.
Born and raised in Potch and never knew that… I hope to always be one of those people who do things people don’t understand, alhough it is never my intention to dissapoint, it seems to come with the territory.
