It’s the SA blog awards again.
I would be excited about it – really I would except there isn’t a category that I fit into or in fact any of the blogs I read for that matter – apart from a few photo blogs.
It seems personal and specifically mom/parent bloggers have been totally left out :-/
There is a category for Food and Wine, Photography, Business, Travel, Sport, Fashion and Science and Technology – none of which I am.
I have seen people register under Entertainment/Lifestyle but this just doesn’t seem right for 2 reasons – 1 – I don’t get how Entertainment/Lifestyle can be one and the same? 2 – Our blogs may entertain a little but we are not entertainers in the true sense and lifestyle is also a huge stretch people!
So I never registered.
Why am I moaning then? Well see the thing is I am STILL a blogger and I still should have an opportunity to be recognised. If you host an event called SA BLOG AWARDS then you should include all bloggers – surely? And if you aren’t going to then say rather “SA ELITE BLOG AWARDS – NOT FOR PARENTS”
It was suggested on twitter that the categories were determined by the advertisers. This actually annoyed me so much more than not having a category.
Parents, mothers in particular, may not buy that R800 pair of shoes BUT they spend a crap load more money every single day. They are influential and have a huge network. Mothers talk to each other – ALL THE TIME. The complain, they praise, they promote -they never keep quiet – EVER.
Why exclude them? It really bugs me that mommy bloggers aren’t taken more seriously in this country.
So in my annoyance this morning I may have suggested we hold our own awards. During yoga I meditated on it and decided it’s actually a really good idea.
We need to have our own SA Personal and Mommy Blogger Awards!
I don’t know yet exactly how it will all work but I have yoga again tomorrow – I will meditate some more then and let you all know!!
What are your thoughts? Am I over reacting about this? Do you mind that there is no parenting category? Should I just suck it up and go make dinner and get ready for cricket?

Great post! I totally agree!
I’ve been known to spend MORE than R800 on a pair of shoes AND I’m a (intermittent) Mommy blogger.
I totally agree with you – it is just crap that such a big group of bloggers are left out. Are we not glam enough or what?
Great idea you have
Brilliant idea!!!
IMHO, its harder to judge “mommy blogs” than it is a business or food blog…
Angel – I agree with that BUT does that mean it should be ignored? Other countries do it.
I’m with you. Let me know how I can help.
Totally agree with you… When you see the absolute quality ‘Mommy blogs’ in SA I think it’s ridiculous that this category has been left out. I’m all for a SA Personal and Mommy Blogger awards…
Hi Laura Totally agree with you!
It’s a shame that they have neglected the Mommy Bloggers this year!
It is big everywhere else! As it should be!
You could start a Mommy Blogger Community with yearly awards? 😉
I wish someone would also start a yearly Mommy Blogger convention in South Africa… (hint-hint)
Hear hear!
It’s a slap in the face for a large majority of us.
I love the idea of starting our own awards…I honestly feel that the quality of parenting blogs in SA is tops.
