ONE CHILD DIES OF DIARRHEA EVERY MINUTE.
Did you know that? I didn’t. I do know how serious diarrhea can be though. I have only ever had one child land up in hospital and it was as a result of a severe tummy bug that left Jack really dehydrated and very sick. We were lucky enough to have the best medical care available but not every child has that, in fact the majority in this country don’t. It may sound too simplistic but the simple act of washing your hands can help save lives by reducing the cases of diarrhea.
Global Handwashing Day is on the 15th October and Dettol are trying to raise awareness and educate parents and children about why washing their hands is so important. Children aren’t born knowing they have to wash their hands or keep clean, it is our job, as their parents and care givers to educate them around hygiene and why washing our hands is so important.
Jack and Emma’s school are big on hygiene and the teachers all have spray bottles that have hand sanitiser in, each time one of the kids goes to the bathroom or after they have eaten or played outside they get their hands squirted. It makes it fun for them and I don’t think they realise they are actually cleaning their hands.
While it is important to focus on washing your hands after you have been to the toilet or before you eat, it is something that needs to be done after your child has been playing outside or with a pet.
